Astrophotography Honors Project
Photography hit list - De Mairan's Nebula, Whirlpool Galaxy, Sunflower Galaxy, Leo Triplet, Black Eye Galaxy.
Planetary astrophotography - planetary astrophotography is the method of taking planetary images. With modern technology it is easy and inexpensive. To get good image quality a photographer must be aware of atmospheric stability and turbulence which cannot be compensated for by technology. You want to take images during the time of greatest clarity and with short exposures.
Deep field astrophotography - images that are taken with use of a telescope of objects beyond our own solar system. Think very deep.
Wide field astrophotography - images that are taken with a wide field of view, achieved through use of a wide angle lense. These are the images you see that include a starry sky or star trails above a landscape.
Nebula - a nebula is a cloud of dust and gas in outer space, which is visible in the night sky as a bright patch or silhouette contrasting against other visible matter.
Galaxy - galaxies are collections of billions of stars which are held together with dust and gas in a gravitational attraction. Our solar system is a part of the Milky Way.
How do we know how far away they are? - Astronomical measurements can be made through methods of parallax, standard candles, and redshift techniques. These comic measurements are made in accordance to the brightness of stars.
What is a star cluster? - Group of stars held together by gravitational attraction. These stars are often very young.
How does Deep Sky Stacker work? - DeepSkyStacker simplifies all the pre-processing steps of deep sky pictures and is specialized in dealing with RAW files from DSLRs. Uses automatic registration of a set of light frames, sub pixel registration, automatic derogation, automatic creation and use of offsets, flats and darks frames, sub pixel alignment and stacking.
