What did you learn about photography this semester?
I've always been interested in photography, however I never took the time to understand my DSLR beyond the basic presets. I remember how excited I was when I saved $900 to buy a camera for myself, and now I feel like I can really use it to its full extent. I was especially interested in the technical aspects of photography and the physical camera, as that was something I had never been exposed to before. My new knowledge of sensors and the real differences between image clarity causes me to constantly question the cameras I see in daily life, and is information I love sharing with others. Beyond this, I learned that there are no rules to photography and what you see as an aesthetic picture is art, no matter what others think. Every professional photographer has a different vision that is no more amazing than your own, making photography an enlightening activity available to everyone.
What should be modified about this project if it is done in the future?
If this project is done in the future, I would recommend adding more guidelines and deliverables. Some students put in a lot of effort and some didn't. However, I did appreciate the freedom to explore our personal creativity and find what was meaningful to us as individuals.
